When it comes to business, good marketing is the key to future development and growth which I am sure you would be interested in hearing more about.

The Marketing Club brings together a select group of Marketing Specialists who, via monthly ‘Clinics’ and Educational Workshops, aim to de-mystify, step-by-step, the key tools every business should be employing to maximise the return on their marketing budget.

We know that if you ‘Make Marketing Matter’ your business will grow.

The Marketing Club meet 9 times each year, on the second Wednesday evening of the month, excluding July, August and December, at the Thorpe on the Hill Golf Centre in Lincoln.

Kicking off at 5.30pm members and guests can start off with a little informal networking, (we have a networking specialist so no excuses!), take advantage of one of the Marketing Specialist Clinics, with a specific issue or question(s), or join in a Workshop.  Oh, did we mention the delicious hot meal which will be served from 6.00 pm until 6.30 pm.  The meeting will close at 8.30 pm.

In October the club decided to take part in the annual Movember campaign to help raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Eleven members volunteered to join the Lincoln Business Club Movember team and between them they have raised an impressive £923.

Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate. Campaigns take place in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland.

The funds raised in the UK support the number one and two male-specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research.

Mo Bro and Chairman Richard Hare said Movember very much reflects the ethos of the club: “Lincoln Business Club is a voluntary organisation which provides networking opportunities for the city’s business community and donates the majority of members’ entrance and sponsorships fees to good causes.

“We’re always keen to take part in fundraising activities such as Movember and are very grateful to our members who support us either by taking part or making a donation.

“This is the first year the club has taken part in Movember and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to raise such a fantastic sum of money. Congratulations to everyone involved!”

Six third-year students entered the competition and on Friday the club’s members were invited to
chose their favourite design from the two which had been shortlisted by the club’s committee.
Following the expansion of the club, which now has over 650 members, and incorporation of a new
committee the Lincoln Business Club felt it was time to bring the organisation more up to date with
a new logo and website.

Committee member Andy Clayton explained: “Whilst discussing the rebranding of the club several
committee members came up with the idea of launching a competition in conjunction with the
University of Lincoln to enable their third-year graphic design students to show off their creative
talents.

“The students were asked to create a logo which best reflected the club as modern, professional
and approachable, with a simple yet eye-catching design. We were very impressed by the
standard of all the entries we received but on the day it was a unanimous decision and Sophie’s logo won over 80 per cent of the votes.”
Sophie’s simple, contemporary design consisted of a ring made up of purple circles which passes
through the organisation’s boldly printed name.

“My design symbolises the various businesses coming together through Lincoln Business Club,”
explained Sophie who is from Folkestone, Kent.

“These circles can also be seen as looking down on people in a meeting seated around a round
table and coming together. Circles are also known for symbolising something being whole and
joining as one – an ideal very much associated with Lincoln Business Club.”

Following the creation of the logo, Sophie also had to show how it would look on the Lincoln
Business Club website and stationery, as the design will be used on the new website, social media
pages, business cards, letterheads and exhibition banners.

The next Lincoln Business Club meeting will be the AGM on Friday 29th July at 7am at
Lincoln City FC. As well as the holding the annual elections, the club will present cheques
for £150 each to Candles, a Lincoln-based cancer charity, and the British Heart Foundation.

The Business Club meets fortnightly on Monday evenings at The Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, LN6 9NH. A healthy balance of speaker events and participative workshops ensures that members get more than just sales leads and referrals from their membership. The development of the business owner and staff is also a priority in a structured but friendly environment. Guests are encouraged to attend a meeting without charge, in order to sample what the Club can deliver.
