Lincoln E/W Link
Piling is currently underway adjacent to Sincil Dyke in preparation for creating of the new Tentercroft Street Bridge. Road widening works continue on Tentercroft Street, and work is progressing in the former coal yard area. Archaeological work is finished on the site of the former Gadsby’s building on High Street ready for the construction of a new junction, and the rebuilding of the commercial properties.
Piling continues beneath Pelham Bridge ready for construction of the next section of the road. Elsewhere, utility diversions and footpath works in Tentercroft Street and Kesteven Street are underway.
Tentercroft Street is closed at the bridge over Sincil Dyke. Access to the Central Lincoln Industrial Estate is via Kesteven Street and Canwick Road (next to Newton & Bailey). A diversion route will be signed. Three way temporary traffic lights will be in operation at the Kesteven Street/Clifton Street junction.
A westbound is in place on Portland Street until the end of September. The left hand turn from Canwick Road onto Portland Street will be blocked. Vehicles will still be able to head east on Portland Street and onto Pelham Bridge. A diversion route is signed.
A revision of works has resulted in the hope of having the road completed by early summer 2016 – several months ahead of schedule. Completion of the new buildings is still on schedule for autumn 2016.
Canwick Road South Park to Hall Drive (Local Pinchpoint Fund)
Early assessment of the scheme shows a significant reduction in journey times and queue lengths. Further traffic surveys will be undertaken at the end of September for accurate comparison with statistics as at last September, prior to commencement of works.
Brayford Wharf East Footbridge
Unfortunately, due to Government financial restrictions, Network Rail's plans for the Brayford Wharf Footbridge have been put on hold whilst a more cost effective solution can be found. Positive talks with Network Rail, Lincoln City Council and other key stakeholders have taken place, and revised proposals will be submitted for planning later this year. Network Rail remain committed to the scheme and, subject to planning approval, it is hoped that construction could start in the second half of 2016.
High Street Footbridge
Network Rail continues with the construction of the footbridge on High Street. However, with a proposal for full demolition of the former Sleep Shop building (179 High Street), there will now be a delay in completion – now scheduled for late spring 2016.
Lincoln Eastern Bypass
The second Public Inquiry into the Orders for the Bypass, concluded on 22 August.
The Inspectors report and recommendations are now awaited, but we hope to receive notification of the outcome before the end of this year. We are hopeful of a positive decision in order that construction of this much needed road can begin next year.
