On Friday 28th March, we welcomed members of the local business community to our regular breakfast meeting at the YMCA Showroom on Tritton Road.
Our monthly meet up once again brought together a wide range of organisations, businesses and individuals from across Lincoln and the wider county, continuing our long-standing, not-for-profit role as a platform for connection, knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
With Chair Robert Drury sadly absent (get well soon!), Vice-Chair Rachael Hunt stepped up once again to lead the morning – she’s clearly getting the hang of it!
The session followed the Club’s familiar format: open networking, welcoming table discussions, and two rounds of structured table networking that give attendees the chance to share what their businesses do, who they can help, and who they’re looking to connect with.

This month’s two-minute spotlight went to Spencer Dixon of HMRC, having been drawn at the previous meeting. He spoke about his software and user experience (UX) background, and the challenges of being a forward-facing organisation such as HMRC.
The slot is designed to give members a brief moment to introduce themselves and their work to the wider room. It’s a popular feature of the Club’s format, often sparking conversations that continue well into the networking sessions.

The sponsor presentation was delivered by Lloyd Cullum ACIPP of Nicholsons Chartered Accountants. and it was, by all accounts (sorry) genuinely engaging, despite what you might expect from a payroll talk!
Lloyd covered what payroll actually involves day-to-day: from PAYE and tax to pensions, auto-enrolment, statutory payments, benefits in kind, and HMRC compliance. He also addressed what can happen when things go wrong. A timely reminder for businesses of all sizes to keep their house in order.
Looking ahead, Lloyd mapped out a significant year for employment law changes, with key milestones running from April 2026 through to 2027. With so much on the horizon, it was a practical and well-received session that gave attendees plenty to think about.

The morning’s keynote was delivered by Natalie Watkinson of the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership, who spoke powerfully about an issue that affects far more workplaces than many realise.
Natalie outlined how domestic abuse takes many forms and can often be a deeply hidden issue – one that doesn’t stay at the front door when someone comes to work.
Her presentation made a compelling case for why businesses have a genuine role to play in supporting those affected, and she introduced a free three-tier Business Engagement Programme (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) available to local organisations at no cost, providing training, resources, and practical support.
It was a thought-provoking session that prompted real reflection in the room.

Joe Harper provided an update on the fantastic ongoing work of Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, the Club’s charity partner.
Joe also announced that a Dragon Boat Race will be taking place on 11th July 2026, with more than a few attendees already eyeing up a Lincoln Business Club entry on the water.
The Club’s Charity Golf Day was also announced to the room, with further details to follow in due course.
Members were welcomed by Lincs Sound, the Club’s media partner for 2026, who were live on the radio from the YMCA café – a great addition to the morning’s energy.
The next Lincoln Business Club meeting takes place on 24th April, with a Business Detox session to follow. Keep an eye out for booking details.
