Lincoln Business Club April 2026 meeting notes

Last Friday (24th April), we welcomed members of the local business community to our regular breakfast meeting at the YMCA Showroom on Tritton Road.

Our monthly meet-up once again brought together a wide range of organisations, businesses and individuals from across Lincoln and the wider county — and this month nearly broke records, with 98 attendees filling the room. Continuing our long-standing, not-for-profit role as a platform for connection, knowledge-sharing and collaboration, it was a brilliant and open morning all round, with some really powerful, vulnerable shares from our community.

The session followed the Club’s familiar format: open networking, welcoming table discussions, and two rounds of structured table networking giving attendees the chance to share what their businesses do, who they can help, and who they’re looking to connect with.

A Two-Minute Spotlight: Carol Hudson – A Touch of Tapping

This month’s two-minute spotlight was delivered by Carol, who spoke about a deeply personal and thought-provoking subject: the tapping method as a tool for releasing emotional stress and historic emotional baggage.

Carol generously shared her own experience of using the technique to release feelings and emotions that had been buried for over 50 years — a candid and courageous contribution that clearly resonated with many in the room. The slot is a popular feature of the Club’s format, and this month’s talk was a reminder of just how powerful a few well-chosen minutes can be.

Sponsor Presentation: James Fowler, Komplete Metanoia

The sponsor presentation was delivered by James Fowler of Komplete Metanoia — and if you haven’t come across James before, he’s been a familiar face at Lincoln Business Club for many years, travelling now from Norfolk to be with us (dedication noted!).

Komplete Metanoia has been three years in the making, built around a straightforward but powerful idea: business development that goes beyond sales. James works with organisations on brand voice, value propositions and finding what makes a business truly viable and distinctive.

This was James’s third time speaking at the Club, and he brought something extra to this one — a willingness to share his personal story, from experiences of bullying as a young child through to challenges with alcohol and work stress patterns in later life. His honesty about the journey he’s been on, and how he’s come through it with a different sense of focus and purpose, made for one of the more memorable sponsor slots we’ve had. Thank you, James.

Charity Update: Joe Harper of Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance

Joe Harper, Corporate Partnerships Manager from Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance — the Club’s charity partner — was back with an update, and the numbers speak for themselves.

The LNAA has already responded to more than 550 missions so far this year, making it the busiest start to a year on record. Those missions include over 50 medical emergencies and numerous road traffic collisions, with the teams delivering advanced medical care both from the helicopter and on the road via teams in Lincoln and Nottingham.

Looking ahead, the team are fundraising for Mission Possible 2 — the campaign to fund a second helicopter — and there’s a full calendar of events to get involved with, including the Dragon Boat Race, a Golf Day, and a possible Summer Social. If you want to get involved or find out more, speak to Joe.

Keynote: Procurement Unlocked – Leanne, Lincolnshire County Council

The morning’s keynote came from Leanne of Lincolnshire County Council, who tackled what could easily have been a dry subject — procurement — and made it genuinely engaging and relevant.

Leanne walked the room through what the Council’s procurement team is actively doing to open up contract and opportunity access for SMEs across Lincolnshire. The headline message was one of real transparency: rather than applying a £2 million threshold before contracts go out to open procurement, the Council is now sharing everything — giving smaller businesses full visibility of what’s available and a genuine shot at winning work.

It was a practical and well-received session. If procurement routes or county council contracts are relevant to your business, Leanne is well worth a conversation — details are available through the Club.

Any other business:

The Club’s Charity Golf Day was also announced to the room, with further details to follow in due course.

Members were welcomed by Lincs Sound, the Club’s media partner for 2026, who were live on the radio from the YMCA café – a great addition to the morning’s energy.
