Last week, Lincoln Business Club was back at the YMCA Showroom on Tritton Road.
Another solid morning of good discussions and a decent turnout considering the hot weather. Thank you all for turning up.
From further education to problem-solving under pressure to a topic that doesn’t get nearly enough airtime in business – it was one of those mornings that reminded you of the value of surrounding yourself with good people.
This month’s two-minute slot went to Helen Cowell, who gave the room a clear and engaging overview of what Lincoln College has to offer – across not one, not two, but three campuses.
Whether you’re thinking about workforce development, apprenticeships, or simply didn’t know the full breadth of what Lincoln College does, Helen’s contribution was a useful reminder that there’s a lot on our doorstep. We’ll be taking a look!
The sponsor presentation this month came from Julia McGinn, of Julia McGinn Virtual Assistant.
Houston may have a problem, but Lincoln doesn’t – not with Julia McGinn around. Julia delivered this month’s sponsor presentation, and brought both warmth and real substance to the slot.
From her experience in the corporate world with Blackberry and Sainsbury’s, to previous businesses, through to her 2024 launch of Julia McGinn Virtual Assistant, Julia was open and helpful with her explanation of what a modern VA does, including briefs, software but not necessarily processes.
Joe Harper was back with an update from Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, and the numbers behind the Mission Possible II campaign are hard to ignore.
The LNAA covers 3,500 square miles. Right now, an average of 1.4 missions per day are missed due to capacity.
A second helicopter would reach over 400 additional patients every year.
That’s real people, in real emergencies, across this region.

The morning’s keynote came from Sarah Bustin, Comms & Engagement Lead at NHS Lincolnshire Maternity and Neonatal Services.
This month’s talk covered something that doesn’t come up often enough in a business setting: how employers can support new mothers who want to continue breastfeeding when they return to work.
It’s a practical issue with a real human dimension, and Sarah gave the room both the context and the concrete steps that make a genuine difference.
Creating a comfortable, private space, being flexible around feeding schedules, and simply having a clear, supportive policy in place aren’t big asks, but they matter enormously to the people affected.
For businesses of any size, it’s worth knowing what good looks like here, and Sarah made it straightforward to understand.
